UMBIN

The UMBIN is a network which interconnects the three main backbone on the Ann Arbor campus together and also connects them to Michnet, our Internet Service Provider (ISP). The Three Backbones on Campus are run by CAEN, MCIT and ITCS. They provide connectivity for the College of Engineering, Medical Center, and everyone else respectively at the University of Michigan.

Types of Connections

Connections to the UMBIN are currently OC3c or OC12c to an ATM core.

Supported Protocols

There are four supported protocols that are routed over the UMBIN which you may use to collaborate with others, these protocols are Internet Protocol (IP), AppleTalk, Novell's Internet Packet Exchange (IPX), and Banyan VINES IP. A backbone may choose to route any combination of the three latter, they must route IP.
