Traffic Statistics

Billing for data networks connected to the UMnet backbone is based in part on each network's Internet traffic - i.e. that part of their total network traffic that passes in or out of the University. Internal traffic which passes entirely within a network or between UM networks (both on-campus nets and off-campus ones which have a UMnet backbone connection) is not counted; traffic between Ann Arbor and the Dearborn and Flint campuses is counted, as this traffic traverses Michnet - we don't (yet) have direct data connections between these three campuses.

Detailed traffic statistics are available for LANs attached to the UMnet backbone:

This report is available through through the ITCom Online Service Center. After entering the OSC, click on the link "Individual Network Detail", available in the "Reports" menu.

The Individual Network Detail report contains traffic data beginning July 1, 2001, and is updated nightly.
