Cellular Coverage in U-M Ann Arbor Campus Buildings

Information Technology Central Services, in partnership with the College of Engineering, the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, and the Academic Emergency Communications Group, is working to evaluate and improve cellular coverage inside U-M campus buildings. Although there was anecdotal information about the generally inadequate and intermittent quality of various cellular carriers' signals, there was no definitive data. C-Squared Systems was hired to collect performance data in all U-M Ann Arbor campus buildings, other than Hospitals and health centers, larger than 10,000 square feet. Testing began November 21, 2008.

The performance data is a summary of many, many data points. See Parameter Test Data Summary (10KB PDF) for all of the quality assessment criteria. These summaries are considered a snapshot of the general user-perceived quality. They are useful for communication with the telcos and are not engineering documents.

The data for the entire Ann Arbor campus has been processed and is organized alphabetically by building name.
