Authorization Codes

What is an Authcode?

Authorization codes are individually assigned for making direct-dialed local, domestic and international calls from a University phone. Intra-university, 911, and other emergency code calls can be dialed without using your authcode.

Your authcode has two special features:

  • Your authcode is specifically assigned to you. This ensures that billing for all calls is personalized and secure. Since you are the only one who knows your authcode, you can be assured that all billing generated by the code is yours alone. Do not share your authcode with anyone.
  • Your authcode can be used from most telephones on campus.

Responsibility for Your Authcode

Your authcode carries responsibilities:
Keep your authcode confidential. This will protect you from the placement and billing of unauthorized calls. Only you should know the authcode assigned to you.

Abuse of your Authcode

Using an authcode that was not assigned to you is considered a theft. If someone has learned your authcode and is making unauthorized calls, contact ITCom to have your authorization code changed.

Requesting an Authcode

To order an authorization code, have your department ID manager (or proxy) use the Online Service Center.

Canceling your Authcode

You will keep the same authcode regardless of your physical location. However, it is imperative that your department cancel your authorization code if you do not want to use it, or if you terminate employment with your department. This ensures that your authcode is disabled and that no billing can be generated by it. You are responsible for all billing generated by your authcode until it is canceled.
