Telephone Line Options
Standard LineA standard telephone line includes these features:
If you want the same telephone number at more than one location, a Bridged Line or Multiple Appearance Directory Number (MADN) can be requested.
Automatic Call Distribution (ACD) LineLines of an ACD group will distribute incoming calls among the members of the group, holding callers in queue if all operators are busy. Daily statistics of calls received, calls answered, and calls abandoned before reaching an operator are available.
Bridged LineIf you want the same telephone number to appear on more than one phone in the same building, a Bridged Line is the answer. It's like an extension, or second jack in your home. It is achieved by electrically connecting the wires of the phone jacks where they converge in the telephone closet. Because they need to be wired together, Bridged Lines are limited to locations that share the same telephone closet. Bridged appearances are limited to three locations, including the main appearance. This line option is only available for single line phones.
Dedicated Meet-Me Conference LineThis type of service is designed for users who need the convenience and flexibility of using the same conference line without pre-scheduling or the concern of sharing with other customers. This phone line is installed in the SL-100 Switch only (not on a physical phone set at a location). Conferees on or off-campus can then be given this Direct Dial Number anytime your department requires a conference call. Each caller dialing in from off-campus pays for their call (if long distance), internal calls within the University are not billable. Maximum number of conferees allowed on a call is 30.
Fax/Modem LineA fax or modem line is a standard line with the COD (Cutoff On Disconnect) feature. The Call Forwarding feature can be ordered upon request.
Internal LineInternal lines are commonly assigned to courtesy phones and secondary lines on multi-line sets. These numbers begin with the prefix 002 for Ann Arbor campus, 005 for Dearborn campus, and 008 for Flint campus. An internal line can be programmed to allow or not allow dialing outside the University phone system. However, an internal line can never receive calls from outside the University phone system. If installed on a multi line set, incoming calls will be bounced to an internal line through a call hunt sequence when the primary number is in use.
Multiple Appearance Directory Number (MADN)A MADN line allows your number to ring at numerous locations anywhere on campus.Private Business LinePrivate business lines are externally generated phone lines that must be routed to University customers over our outside plant telephone cables.
Suspended LineA suspended line is a line which is effectively held for a customer, without being disconnected, while he or she is away for a period of time. The line is not active at the phone jack, but "in reserve" for the customer, and quickly put back into service when the time arises. A suspended line saves the cost of a technician disconnecting, and reconnecting the line, and also allows the customer to retain the same telephone number.
