Local Rate for Some Long Distance Calls

Some numbers in the Southeast Michigan area that are not in the 734 area code can be direct-dialed as long distance but are charged to your account at the local call rate (currenty $.06/call). For example, calls to Detroit numbers in the 313 area code are only $.06 each when you use your authcode. To find all numbers and exchanges in this category, see How to Determine Your Local Calling Area.

Campus Telephone Exchanges

The new 565 exchange is different than other campus exchanges because you cannot use the shortcut of dialing just the last five digits of a number.

Other campus exchanges are 763, 764, 615, 936, 647, and 998. To dial a number that begins with one of these exchanges from a 565 telephone, you must dial all 7 digits. (This means that if you see a number listed as 3xxxx, 4xxxx, 5xxxx, 6xxxx, 7xxxx, 8xxxx you must dial 763xxxx, 764xxxx, 615xxxx, 936xxxx, 647xxxx, 998xxxx from a 565 telephone.) If you are dialing from a non-565 campus telephone, you must dial just the last 5 digits.

Restricted Numbers and Calls

1-900, 1-700, and 10-10 numbers cannot be dialed from a U-M residential telephone. Also, collect calls to a residential telephone cannot be accepted.
