UMTV—The Campus Cable System

University of Michigan Television (UMTV) is the Ann Arbor campus cable television system that is available in over 80 campus buildings and all residence halls. Content for the UMTV system is composed of commercial, departmental, and selected programming services.

Channel Lineup

Hard copies of our latest channel lineup, including digital programming channels, are made available in University Housing residence halls. Channels produced at the University of Michigan, as well as those available only in University Housing residence halls, are so noted.

System Requirements

  • To receive UMTV, you need:
    • a cable drop (connection) at an on-campus location.
      (All University Housing Residence Hall rooms have a UMTV cable drop.)
    • a television set

  • To transmit on UMTV, you need:
    • a UMTV channel (Channels are available to departments and units at the Ann Arbor campus.)
    • a UMTV drop and a transmit cable
    • broadcasting equipment

      Those acquiring this service to transmit must:
    • track content to be transmitted, schedule access to their channel(s), and manage programming or other services they wish to provide, such as distance learning, video conferencing, and bulletin boards
    • in consultation with others, handle violations of the Proper Use Policy, and all other applicable policies, by service users
    • designate a Channel Administrator and provide to ITCom the Administrator's e-mail, pager, and phone contact information
