Installation Questions

U-M units who have questions about or are interested in installing a wireless network should contact their ITCom Project Manager

UM Wireless Network Access for Departmentally Sponsored Guests

University of Michigan departments can sponsor people for UM Wireless Network access at no charge. Departments can sponsor wireless guests and obtain temporary uniqnames and passwords for them by filling out the appropriate MCommunity form on the ITCS Accounts Office website. NOTE: Be certain to select "Wireless User" on the form.

The sponsoring unit assumes responsibility for sponsored guests and acknowledges that they are engaged in a U-M working relationship.

Use of MWireless and UM Wireless Network Names

The SSIDs "MWireless" and "UM Wireless Network" are used to identify enterprise campus-wide resources available to all U-M faculty, staff, and students with a valid U-M uniqname and umich Kerberos password. Users and user support staff expect the same look, feel and functionality from these resources wherever they are available. This includes but is not limited to the login screen, bandwidth, authentication required and security provided. Variations add to user confusion and makes user support even more challenging. These needs will only intensify as roaming is enabled and new multi-mode devices are introduced into the environment.
